Fishing Seasons according to the area you want to fish.

All the info you need to plan your fishing trips according to your favorite catch.

Fishing the Pacific coast of Costa Rica is really changing for us.  We are now based in Quepos Costa Rica for the season. Quepos by far is the place to be! With hundreds of hotels and night life beyond anything the rest of Costa Rica has to offer! Another attribute to Costa Rica that only in Quepos we have the beautiful Pez Vela Marina!

The high season or in the US the winter season has just about everything you want to target. It really is a great time for Blue Marlin, Black Marlin, Sail fish, Yellow fin tuna, Mahi Mahi, Stripe Marlin, Rooster fish, and Wahoo. Boats are getting 10-30 shots a day on Sail fish and we are getting 2-5 shots a day with Blue Marlin and every once in a while we will get that Black Marlin! Most of our clients on Mr. Trigger Sport fishing Quepos usually fish multiple trips so they get a great chance of catching that pesky Marlin and a shot at a Rooster that everyone needs to have under their fishing carrier belt.

Summer time up north in Papaguyo,Tamarindo, and Flamingo June through August is Marlin season and big Marlin. The reason is there is larger baits around like small Mai Mahi, tuna, and lots of schools of Bonita. It is rainy season so the water is a little bit choppy and a little cooler so the marlin loves being on the surface. This is Mr. Trigger Sport fishing’s favorite time to get that big Black Marlin on our signature pitch bait style!

We have different package deals set up for you to meet us in different areas up north so you can still fish with the best crew in the country!!

Fish Categories:

Blue Marlin: Caught all year around from sizes 150 lb's and up.  We get multiple hooks each trip in the months January - May and larger fish June - December.

Black Marlin: Hit or miss all year but I like to really target them June - December anywhere on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica.  We normally use a very specialized technique "bait & switch" style for them but with our new 32 Black fin we will be professors of the tradition live baiting for them in deep water.

Stripe Marlin: These fish are a favorite for deck hand Paul McColm a seasoned american mate from Florida.  " they are so quick and come and go in a seceond" that's what he says make them interesting. " You never know how they are coming in the spread.  January - April is our favorite time to fish for them but,  we caught them every month of the year in 2009.

Mahi Mahi aka Dorado: Costa Rica has the biggest dorado I have ever herd of.  It is not uncommon to catch 50 plus pound fish in one full day trip.  Mr. Trigger has landed 50's 60's and 70 plus pound fish in the high months.  August - December is by far the best time but they are caught all year around!

Yellow Fin Tuna: Yum Yum tuna,  Quepos Costa Rica has the best tuna fishing by far. The reason for this is the shelf that comes off Panama is a great place for them to slide off and school up.  Tuna in Quepos can exceed over 200 pounds and can be taken trolling lures or slow trolling live baits.
